Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has expressed concerns over a potential assassination threat following a reduction in her security detail from 50 to 30 personnel.
In a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, Ravi Seneviratne, Kumaratunga questioned why other former Presidents are granted larger security teams of 109 to 243 officers, despite her being the only one with a history of surviving an assassination attempt.
She also highlighted past threats from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) against her, even post-retirement, and questioned the Government's decision-making on security allocations.
