Royal College Colombo hosted their traditional rivals from the hill capital, Trinity College Kandy in their annual 1st XI Cricket Encounter at Reid Avenue recently. This encounter which dates back to the 19th-Century is the third oldest continuing Inter-Collegiate Cricket match in Sri Lanka after the oldest being the Royal-Thomian and Royal-Wesley the second oldest encounter which all started in the latter part of the 1800s.
The hosts were bowled out for 234 with Malith Rathnayake bagging five important wickets to dismantle the Royalists. He also had a match bag of 7-wickets with another two dismissals in the second essay. Rehan Peiris top scored for the Blue and Golds with a good knock of 72 runs.
In reply the Trinity Lions amassed 301 with Vathila Udara scoring a sublime inning of 134 and Viduka Dhammage was very unlucky to miss out on a century being dismissed at 91.

Previously the annual cricket encounter between Royal College and Ananda College for the L. D. H. Peiris Memorial Trophy ended in a draw with the trophy remaining at Reid Avenue safely at the hands of the Royalists for yet another year.
Meanwhile the Royalists pulled off a superb 9-wicket win against the Trinitians in the 2nd XI game.
