- 2 requests made for the same, only prelimn. report received
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) is still waiting for the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to provide them with information and data on the islandwide power outage that occurred on 9 February, it is reported.
Several parties have been requesting that the PUCSL conduct an independent investigation into the power outage that occurred on 9 February this year.
When queried by The Daily Morning, regarding the actions taken on the matter, PUCSL Director – Communications Jayanath Herath said that they had requested the CEB twice to provide information and data on the incident, but that the latter is yet to comply.
“The CEB has sent us a preliminary report on the incident. However, we have not yet received the information and data that we requested,” he said.
There have been several islandwide power outages, with the most recent one occurring on 9 February, which took several hours to restore.
In a letter addressed to the Director General of the PUCSL, the Electricity Consumers Association General Secretary Sanjeewa Dhammika recently said that the PUCSL should calculate the economic losses incurred by both the country and the CEB due to the incident. He also urged the PUCSL to take necessary steps to personally recover those losses from the officers responsible for the negligence, instead of passing the burden on to the consumers through electricity bill adjustments.
