President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the recently elected 9th Executive President of Sri Lanka, celebrated his 56th birthday yesterday (24).
Born in 1968, President Dissanayake has made significant contributions to Sri Lankan politics over a career spanning several decades. Dissanayake began his education at Thambuttegama Primary School and later entered Thambuttegama Central College. In 1992, he entered the Faculty of Science at the University of Kelaniya, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1995. His political journey started during his university years, becoming an activist with the Socialist Students’ Union in 1987. He played a prominent role in the nationwide protests against the Indo-Lanka Accord the same year.
