Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and National People’s Power (NPP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake recently made an interesting revelation.
During a public seminar in Colombo last week on the country’s economic crisis and the truth behind the Government’s move to ‘sell-off’ State assets, Dissanayake exposed the unrecovered dues amounting to billions of rupees to the two State banks – Bank of Ceylon and People’s Bank – by large-scale businesspersons enjoying political patronage.
While naming several businesses that owed billions of rupees to one of the State banks, the JVP/NPP Leader noted that one of the businesses in the list of defaulters had now hidden a helicopter that had been purchased due to fear of it being confiscated.
According to Dissanayake, this business group, which is affiliated to the United National Party (UNP), has now hidden the helicopter in the Katunayake area in order to prevent it from being confiscated in lieu of the dues to the State banks.
