Sri Lanka’s Trilingual Inscription (Tribhasha Sellipiya) and key documents from the 1873 Pānadurā Vādaya (The Great Debate of Panadura) have been added to UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.
The Trilingual Inscription, jointly submitted with China, dates back to 1409 and features texts in Chinese, Tamil, and Persian, praising Buddha, Vishnu, and Allah.
Also inscribed are 4 historic documents from the Panadura Debate, which promoted religious dialogue between Buddhists and Christians.
UNESCO recognized both entries for their global cultural, historical, and spiritual significance.
The Memory of the World Register now includes 570 collections preserving the world’s documentary heritage.
