The Department of Railways has initiated a shift to exclusively online ticket reservations starting today (14), streamlining the process for commuters.
Utilizing a One-Time Password (OTP) code, passengers can reserve tickets and seats via the online platform: http://seatreservation.railway.gov.lk/.
Accordingly, this move eliminates the need for queuing at railway stations, extending the convenience to government employees for warrant ticket reservations.
Passengers are required to present identification at the respective station within 7 days of seat allocation or 48 hours before the journey, whichever occurs first.
Earlier, seat reservations were made within 30 days prior to the journey and reservations started at 10 a.m. daily but with the new online system, the time for ticket reservations has been extended up to 7 p.m. with effect from today.
