South Korea has played a vital role in enhancing vocational and language skills among Sri Lankan youth, said Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) during a ceremony held to welcome the Republic of Korea Navy’s destroyer Kang Gam Chan at the Port of Colombo today (22).

The destroyer’s official visit marks a significant step in strengthening naval cooperation and symbolises the broader strategic partnership between the two nations. Deputy Minister Jayasekara, alongside the Korean Ambassador to Sri Lanka Miyon Lee and the ship’s captain, toured the vessel and discussed shared efforts in maritime security and regional stability.

Emphasising South Korea’s contributions to youth development, the Deputy Minister acknowledged the positive impact of training and education initiatives supported by the Korean Government.

Ambassador Lee reaffirmed South Korea’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties, noting the importance of continued collaboration for mutual benefit.

The event was attended by Tri Forces Commanders, diplomats, and Korean embassy officials.
