The Cabinet has approved the establishment of a Gaming Regulatory Authority to oversee and regulate all aspects of the gaming industry in Sri Lanka.

The proposed authority will hold comprehensive powers to regulate land-based casinos, offshore gaming on ships, gaming in the Colombo Port City, and online gaming platforms.

The draft bill, prepared by the Legal Draftsman and cleared by the Attorney General (AG), follows Cabinet approval granted on 24 February, 2025.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his role as Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, presented the proposal.

The Gaming Regulatory Authority Bill will soon be published in the Government Gazette and submitted to Parliament for approval.
