Private sector wage increases approved following budget proposals

The Cabinet has approved amendments to the National Minimum Wage of Employees Act No. 3 of 2016, following the 2025 Budget Proposals to increase private sector employees' wages in line with public sector salary hikes. 


The key changes are as follows:


  1. The National Minimum Monthly Wage will increase by Rs. 9,500, from Rs. 17,500 to Rs. 27,000, effective from 01-04-2025.
  2. The National Minimum Daily Incentive will rise by Rs. 380, from Rs. 700 to Rs. 1,080, also effective from 01-04-2025.
  3. The National Minimum Monthly Incentive will increase by Rs. 3,000, from Rs. 27,000 to Rs. 30,000, effective from 01-01-2026.
  4. The National Minimum Daily Incentive will rise by Rs. 120, from Rs. 1,080 to Rs. 1,200, effective from 01-01-2026.
