Now Sri Lanka T20 Captain Wanindu Hasaranga speaks after their disgraceful World Cup debacle. Earrings on, tattoos prominent, hair dyed... this odd looking Sri Lankan National Captain blames, in his explanations, a conspicuous social media campaign against Sri Lanka players.
Answering a question regarding recent memes and posts insulting the Sri Lanka cricket team, Hasaranga says those campaigns are artificially orchestrated and they do not reflect the feelings and responses of the common Sri Lanka cricket fan (my foot!).
The average cricket fan of Sri Lanka is upset, disappointed, and angered about your play. No census or research needs to be done to guess that public opinion. You live in Sri Lanka, you get to know that.
On the contrary, it's some of the senior, top national players who run artificial media campaigns – to boost their image and to torture the image of, perhaps, their own team-mate.
It is common knowledge that many of our leading players of the national side, including Hasaranga, maintain paid social media (at times, mudslinging) campaigns, which they keep a close watch on.
Under Hasaranga’s watch, Maheesh Theekshana had complained about infrastructure and transportation shortcomings of the US leg of the World Cup.
Now, apparently, the Captain opposes his own surbordinate’s official opinion.
Where can the public go? Aren’t they angered, humiliated?
