  • Situation does not pose any threat: Police

Kollupitiya Police arrested two Indian nationals on Monday (24) night for allegedly sending an item resembling a drone to the grounds of the Temple Trees, the Prime Minister's official residence.

When contacted by The Daily Morning yesterday (26), sources within the Kollupitiya Police clarified that the item in question was not a drone, as reported by some media outlets, but an infrared induction flying ball-type toy.

“There is no harm identified thus far,” a Police source stated, emphasising that the equipment was merely a toy. However, the two individuals remain in Police custody as investigations continue, said the Police sources. The Police further noted that the incident has been widely misinterpreted on social media, with many highlighting it as a significant security issue. The Police source reiterated that the situation does not pose any threat, and that the media reports suggesting otherwise are inaccurate. Sources noted however that the Police is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Several attempts made to contact the Police Media Spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General of Police – Crime Range Nihal Thalduwa proved futile.
