- Royal, Ananda, Lumbini, Lyceum clinch quarter-final wins
Royal College Colombo defeated arch-rivals S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia by two wickets in their Under-19 Division 1 – Tier A quarter final played at St. Peter’s Grounds, Bambalapitiya. Royal led by Sineth Jayawardana won the toss and elected to bowl first. STC only managed 142/8 (47 Overs), in reply Royalists reached the target in 39.5 overs scoring 145 for the loss of eight wickets. Thomian Akash Fernando put up a solo effort scoring 65 not out coming from the lower order. Anush Polonowita bagged three wickets with Sineth Jayawardana and Ramiru Perera scalping two wickets each.
Royal had a scare early in their reply as they lost three early wickets, however all-rounder Anush Polonowita steered the Reid Avenue school to victory with an unbeaten, composed knock of 57 runs off 107 deliveries. Ramiru Perera played a pivotal part with a valuable 38. Abheeth Paranawidana had a match bag of four wickets in a lost cause. Akash Fernando had a brilliant outing with the ball as well scalping three wickets.
Yesterday (13) the Division 1 – Tier B quarter final clash between Mahinda College Galle vs St. Peter’s College Colombo was abandoned due to rain. At stoppage Mahindians were 55/3 in 11.3 overs.
Ananda College beat St. Sebastian’s College Katuneriya by a thumping 92 runs at STC Big Club Grounds in their Division 1 – Tier B clash. Batting first Ananda scored 208/10 (42.2 Ov), in reply the Sebs were bowled out for 116 runs.
At another Tier B clash Lumbini College Colombo won by seven wickets defeating St. Aloysius’ College Galle at Ananda Grounds in Colombo. Batting first the Aloysians were bowled out for a paltry 123. Lumbini chased the target with ease scoring 124 /4 in 33.4 overs.
Meanwhile Lyceum International School, Wattala recorded a six wicket win against Sri Devananda College Ambalangoda in their Division 2 – Tier A clash in Moratuwa. Sri Devananda were bowled out for 94 with Lyceum scoring 95/4 to qualify for the semi final.
