In a context where the need to increase the recruitment of women officers to the Police force has been reiterated, the Police Department is striving to increase such recruitments as a general practice in order to ensure gender equality.
Noting this, Police Media Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police and attorney Nihal Thalduwa told The Daily Morning that although not by a significant percentage, the recruitment of woman officers to the force has gradually increased during recent recruitment cycles. Attention, according to him, has been paid to maintaining a reasonable increase in female officers compared to male officers, based on the fulfillment of the eligibility requirements.
He added that recruitments and trainings are currently underway, and that more officers will be recruited next year (2024).
Recently, it was reported that the Parliament Select Committee on Gender Equity and Equality has issued several recommendations to the Ministry of Public Security with the aim of addressing inequalities observed in the process of promoting female Police officers. In this regard, it said that since over 15% of the force is made up of women officers, steps should be taken to create vacancies for 15% of women officers in all positions.
