- Criticises certain MPs for divisive ‘misinfo’ on Party policies
The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP)-led National People's Power (NPP) of the Parliamentary Opposition remains committed to forming a Government that represents all communities, despite facing what it describes as baseless accusations regarding its policies.
Speaking to the media following a meeting with the All-Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) yesterday (21), NPP Leader and Presidential candidate and Opposition Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasised the importance of unity and coexistence among Sri Lanka's diverse communities.
He criticised certain Muslim MPs in the Opposition for allegedly spreading misinformation about the NPP, aiming to create cultural and ethnic tensions within the country.
“The NPP is dedicated to ensuring social harmony and safeguarding the cultural diversity of Sri Lanka under its future Government,” Dissanayake stated. He expressed confidence that the Party’s policies would foster inclusivity and mutual respect among all ethnic and religious groups.
Dissanayake further elaborated on the role of the ACJU in the political landscape, clarifying that the organisation did not offer any political endorsement to anyone. “The ACJU has historically refrained from holding or expressing political views, and this stance was reiterated during our discussions,” he said.
He noted that the meeting was part of a broader initiative by the NPP to engage with various cultural and religious leaders across the country. “The NPP believes in the power of dialogue and understanding,” Dissanayake added.
“These meetings are aimed at addressing concerns and building a platform for genuine cooperation among all segments of the society. Our vision for the country includes the active participation of every community in shaping a prosperous and peaceful future,” he said.
