President Ranil Wickremesinghe granted a pardon for Diyunuge Edward Henry Pedris, who was wrongfully executed on 7 July, 1915, by a colonial Court Martial.
The pardon follows a Cabinet approval in December 2023 and an investigation into the case.
Pedris, then 27, was falsely accused of treason during riots and was executed despite numerous appeals.
The pardon acknowledges the grave injustice done to him 108 years ago.
