The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory warning of severe lightning over the next few hours.

According to the announcement, there is a high likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by heavy lightning during the evening or night in parts of the Eastern, Uva, Central, North-Central,  Northern, and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Kurunegala Districts.

Temporary strong winds may also occur in areas experiencing thunderstorms.

The Department of Meteorology urges the public to remain cautious, especially during the evening hours.
