The National Consumers' Front (NCF) called upon all presidential candidates to prioritise comprehensive policies aimed at market regulation and other related policies such as reducing the current living costs affecting citizens.
Speaking to The Daily Morning yesterday (31), NCF Leader Asela Sampath emphasised the urgent need for candidates to address this critical issue, which impacts individuals regardless of their political affiliations. "As living costs continue to soar, it is the responsibility of all presidential candidates to give this matter their full attention," Sampath stated. He pointed out that the rising cost of living (CoL) has become a major public concern that affects all segments of society. "Every person is a consumer in their life," Sampath said, therefore urging the candidates to implement policies that would establish a national programme for consumers.
He pointed out that previous leaders and Governments have largely neglected this issue for decades, leading to a market crisis. "Most leaders and governments have disregarded this for many decades, resulting in a market crisis," he said.
Sampath also stressed the need for all political parties to work towards creating a competitive yet fair market for consumers. He called for new regulations to replace outdated laws, thereby ensuring a more equitable market environment. "Every political party should work to make a competitive but fair market for every consumer and to introduce new regulations despite the outdated laws," Sampath stated.
Sampath also emphasised the importance of including these policies in all election manifestos.
