The Morning Sports has learnt that the Sri Lanka Football Federation has received 26 objections one day after nominations for election were submitted.
It is reported that the objections pertained to several posts, and the Election Committee is intent on conducting investigations into the matter in the future. As per reliable sources, the verdict regarding the objections will be given tomorrow (23) at the conclusion of the said investigations.
Further, it is reported that six nominations have been submitted for the post of President in next year’s election, which is scheduled to be held on 14 January. The list includes former Sri Lanka Football Federation President Jaswar Umar and former journalist and politician J. Shri Ranga.
Former Sri Lanka Football Federation official Upali Hewage, Coach Sampath Perera, Jaffna Football League President and former Jaffna Mayor Emmanuel Arnold, and Nawalapitiya League President Jagath de Silva are also said to have submitted their nominations for the post of President.
Officials have also reportedly warned that the nominations of certain candidates may be cancelled, as per the gazette issued by the Sports Minister last week.
It is important to note that Dr. Manil Fernando, who was former President Jaswar Umar’s main opponent in the last election in the run for the presidency, has not handed in his nomination this election.
Sources claim that with the exception of Ranga, all other presidential candidates are supportive of Jaswar. However, the tenure for the committee to be elected on 14 January will only have five months at the helm.
