- Queries how a SDIG is protected by transferring 7, claims NPC has endorsed the transfers
Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Ajith Rohana should explain as to how a particular SDIG is being protected through the transfer of seven SDIGs including the former, said Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles.
The Department of Police had taken a decision on Tuesday (25) to transfer seven SDIGs due to service requirements. Following the announcement, SDIG Rohana had claimed in a letter to the National Police Commission (NPC) that the transfers in question had been made as Alles wanted to protect a particular SDIG.
When queried by The Daily Morning about the allegation levelled against him, Alles said: “This particular SDIG has claimed that these transfers were made to protect a SDIG. He should first name the SDIG whom he is referring to. Also, he should explain as to how a SDIG is being protected through these transfers, and for what purpose such protection is needed.”
He further said that the stance of the Department and the Public Security Ministry would remain unchanged, as they had also been endorsed by the NPC. “The SDIG who makes these allegations has been attached to the Police Headquarters (HQ) until an inquiry is conducted into his allegations.”
The Department had transferred seven SDIGs due to service requirements. Accordingly, SDIGs Lalith Pathinayake (from the Police Field Force HQ to the Central Province), Rohana (from the Southern Province to the Eastern Province), Sajeewa C. Medawatte (from the Sabaragamuwa Province to the Southern Province), W. Kithsiri Jayalath (from the Eastern Province), L.K.W.K. Silva (from the Crimes and Traffic Division to the Police Field Force HQ), Priyantha Weerasooriya (from the Central Province to the Crimes and Traffic Division), and Ranmal Kodithuwakku had been transferred with immediate effect.
