The Court of Appeal granted time yesterday (20) for the Attorney General (AG), President's Counsel Sanjay Rajaratnam to submit limited objections regarding the petition filed by the mother of suspected criminal Salindu Malshika Gunaratne alias “Kudu Salindu”, requesting to ensure the safety of her son, who is currently detained under the custody of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Accordingly, the Court has also ordered the AG to file the relevant limited objections before 4 April 2023.
The petition was taken up before a two-Judge bench consisting of the President of the Court, Justice Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and Justice A. Marikkar.
Kudu Salindu was repatriated from Madagascar along with fellow suspected criminal “Harak Kata”, whose father has also filed a similar petition. The duo have been detained for three months under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act.
