Indians in Sri Lanka, along with the Sri Lanka India Society (SLIS) and Indian CEO
forum (ICF) have started an initiative titled “Assistance to Elders’ Homes”.
The first step of this programme was initiated by donating essentials to “Home of
Compassion” and the essentials were handed over to Rev. Sister Nilanthi and
Sister Anne Mari under the patronage of High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka
Gopal Baglay. Also present on the occasion were Lanka IOC Managing Director
Manoj Gupta, SLIS President Kishore Reddy, ICF President Prakash and members
of the respective organisations.
“Considering the current economic situation of Sri Lanka we have realised that
most of the elders’ homes require assistance for even the basic essentials, and in
order to address this issue on a consistent level until the situation improves, the
Indian groups and societies, along with the Indian corporates thought of an
initiative to assist elders’ at homes that need assistance,” said Sri Lanka India
Society (SLIS) President Kishore Reddy. He also mentioned that since its formation
in 1948 the SLIS, which has both Indians and Sri Lankans as members, have been
working towards strengthening people-to-people relationships between both the
countries.
LIOC Managing Director Manoj Gupta mentioned that, as a responsible corporate,
LIOC will always be there to assist the society whenever needed and had assured to continue the corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in their endeavour
of giving back to society. He also stated that in September 2022, LIOC contributed
Rs. 200 million towards the President’s Fund. LIOC has also been regularly
donating essential medicines and medical equipment to the various hospitals
apart from other CSR activities from time to time.
“ICF and its member companies will always work towards not only improving the
business relationships but also assist Sri Lanka in the economic recovery,” said ICF
President Prakash.
On this occasion, Gopal Baglay said that he was happy to see the Indian
corporates and organisations coming together to help Sri Lanka, and that the
Government of India has stood by Sri Lanka and assisted whenever it was
required, and shall continue to be with the people of Sri Lanka as we all share the
same values and culture.
Rev Sister Nilanthi and Sister Anne Mari appreciated the kind act of assisting the
Elders’ Home and expressed gratitude towards the organisations.
