Health officials have warned of a rising risk of dengue and chikungunya due to ongoing rains.

Public Health Inspectors Association Secretary Chamil Muthukuda stated that both viruses are spread by the same type of mosquito.

He noted that the long weekend and school holidays have led to many households being left uncleaned, increasing mosquito breeding grounds.

Authorities are urging the public to clean their surroundings regularly to prevent an outbreak.
