Around 40,000 people die anually due to the usage of alcohol and cigarettes, while in extension another 40,000 introduce children to the world of drugs, said the President of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, Shakya Nanayakkara.
He mentioned this while speaking at a press conference today (04).
"Since the continuation of the situation could cause many issues , the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board will be taking action in order to help people let go of drug usage during the Vesak and Poson seasons," Nanayakkara noted.
He further noted that although people use drugs to relieve physical pain, personal problems and for happiness, drugs would result in giving them the exact opposite.
"The Buddhist psychological method can be used to free oneself from alcohol and drugs, therefore, we will have to think about it during the upcoming Vesak and Poson seasons," he concluded.
