- Ready to provide evidence: FSB
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has initiated an investigation into allegation made by Duminda Nagamuwa of the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) that the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has invested money on a European island with Public Security Minister Tiran Alles, The Daily Morning learns.
The inquiry follows a complaint lodged with the CID by Alles on 15 August, seeking an investigation regarding the allegation made by Nagamuwa during a media briefing on 12 August.
Speaking to The Daily Morning yesterday (20), Police Media Spokesman and Senior Superintendent of Police, attorney-at-law Nihal Thalduwa confirmed that the CID had initiated an investigation over the matter.
“The investigation has already commenced. The investigating officers will summon Nagamuwa and record a statement from him accordingly,” he said.
Speaking at a recent media briefing, Nagamuwa claimed: “Almost all protests have been attacked in the recent past, while Alles is functioning as Public Security Minister. Therefore, we would like to challenge the JVP to utter a word against him in Parliament. They cannot do so. We also invite them to tell the country about the investments that they make on a European island with Alles. Tell us what that deal/business is.”
In response to the complaint being lodged by Alles, Nagamuwa last week said that they were ready to make relevant submissions including the related evidence when the CID commences an investigation.
“It is good that he went and lodged a complaint. Then we can submit the evidence that we are in possession of. We are ready to make our intervention with regard to this complaint,” he said.
