MP Eran Wickramaratne has questioned the denial of access to Puttalam Ilmenite Limited (PIL) by Sri Lanka Cement Corporation (SLCC), which has jeopardized its mineral sands project.
In a written submission to Parliament, MP Wickramaratne expressed concerns about why PIL has been denied entry to SLCC land, thereby hindering the realization of a project that has invested over $20 million over the last 10 years.
According to the MP, the envisaged investment is $100 million, marking the largest-ever mineral sector investment in the country and a significant contribution to foreign direct investment (FDI) at this critical juncture.
The MP’s question is expected to receive written answers on Wednesday (7) from the Minister of Industries.
