Suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, currently in remand custody, is set to appear before the Matara Magistrate’s Court today (03). 

He was remanded after surrendering on 19 March, following an arrest warrant related to a 2023 shooting in Weligama.

The Court of Appeal dismissed his petition to prevent arrest, directing the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take action. 

A motion for his removal as IGP is set to be tabled in Parliament on 8 April.
