The new Cabinet of Ministers was scheduled to meet yesterday (30) afternoon for the first time under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The Cabinet was scheduled to take several important decisions at this meeting, while the media was to be briefed regarding these decisions following the meeting, the President’s Media Division said.
Sri Lanka’s new three-member Cabinet was sworn-in before President Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, last week. Dr. Harini Amarasuriya was sworn-in as the new Prime Minister.
President Dissanayake has retained the following Ministerial portfolios: Defence, Finance; Economic Development, Policy Formulation, Planning and Tourism; Energy; and Agriculture, Lands, Livestock, Irrigation, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
Premier Dr. Amarasuriya has also been given the following Ministerial portfolios: Justice, Public Administration, Provincial Councils, Local Government and Labour; Education, Science and Technology; Women, Child and Youth Affairs and Sports; Trade, Commerce, Food Security, Co-operatives Development, Industries and Entrepreneurship Development; and Health,
Vijitha Herath holds the following Ministerial portfolios: Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, National Integration, Social Security and Mass Media; Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation; Public Security; Foreign Affairs; Environment, Wildlife, Forest Resources, Water Supply, Plantation Community Infrastructure; and Rural and Urban Development, Housing and Construction.
Parliamentarian Lakshman Nipunaarachchi is the other MP who is part of the Government.
