Lankan slide in FIFA rankings

28 Oct 2024

Sri Lanka’s Men’s football team has dropped three places in the latest FIFA rankings, falling to 203 from their previous rank of 200.

This fall follows a disappointing winless tour of Myanmar recently, where Sujan Perera’s side lost 2-0 in the first leg and managed only a tense 0-0 draw in the second leg in Yangon.

Somalia moved ahead of Sri Lanka, now ranked 202, while Seychelles climbed to 201. Liechtenstein claimed Sri Lanka’s former 200th position.

Sri Lanka now sits among the bottom eight teams of FIFA’s 210-country list, with just seven teams ranked lower than them.

Among South Asian nations, Pakistan holds 198th place, Bangladesh 185th, and India remains the region’s highest-ranked team at 125.

At international level, Lionel Messi’s world champions Argentina continue to lead the rankings, followed by France in second and Spain climbing to third. Japan, at 15th, holds the highest spot for an Asian team.
