The International Police (Interpol) has not been informed nor has been involved in the arrest of self- styled 'Prophet' Jerome Fernando, confirms Sri Lanka police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa.

Thalduwa confirmed this while speaking to The Morning today (26), in regards to social media posts circulating stating that Interpol has been informed of and involved in Fernando's arrest.

"Interpol is not informed or involved as yet of Fernando's arrest, despite an arrest warrant being locally issued for Jerome Fernando. Like stated before, if needed the Interpol can be involved, but as of now we haven't involved them as yet," Thalduwa said.

Fernando currently has a warrant for his arrest by the CID in Sri Lanka for deragatory statements made by himself involving Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam in front of a packed congregation and for the money laundering investigation. His lawyers, recently, have withdrawn the FR petition requesting the court to prevent Fernando's arrest by the CID.

Jerome Fernando is currently in the UK with his family and conducting services via video calls with his congregation in Sri Lanka, after leaving Sri Lanka to Singapore hours prior to his arrest warrant being issued.
