Centuries galore as Colts, Army, Moors, and Badureliya register wins

By Ranjika Perera    Avishka Perera’s mammoth 236, and Akila Dananjaya’s seven-wicket match bag helped Colts thrash Kandy Customs by an innings and 340 runs at Colts yesterday (21). After being asked to bat first, Colts dominated proceedings from the word go. Fernando stroked a masterful double century, and he had the support of Hashan Dumindu who scored a blissful 130. In response, Kandy Customs were cleaned up for 70 in their first innings with Mohommad Shiraz taking five for 25 for the hosts. After winning the toss, and electing to bat first, Dinesh Chandimal led from the front with a masterful 152 which carried Army SC to 256 runs. Bloomfield had a horrible first innings which only lasted 31 overs, where they managed to score 91 runs. Nanyakkara was the pick of the bowlers with five wickets. With a lead of 161 runs, Army came on to bat in the second innings. Cameos from Shehan Fernando and Asela Gunarathne helped them add another 179 runs and set up a target of 340 runs. Negombo won the toss and elected to field first. Despite a five-for from Danushka Sandaruwan, Badureliya posted 301 runs in their first innings thanks to Anuk Fernando’s 138. In response, Negombo were bundled out cheaply for 80 runs, with Chalana De Silva taking six wickets for Badureliya. The home side was asked to follow on and fought back thanks to a century from Jatin Saxena. However, they were only able to post 270 for their second innings which gave Badureliya a modest target of 50, to get in the last innings. Former Royal College skipper Pasindu Sooriyabandara stroked a beautiful century while Skipper Ramesh Mendis, wicketkeeper Sohan de Livera, and Mohommad Shamaaz chipped in with valuable half centuries.
