CID wasted my time: Harin Fernando

28 Jul 2021

By Aazam Ameen After Parliamentarian Harin Fernando left the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today (28) following the recording of a nearly five hour long statement regarding his comments over the Easter Attacks, he told The Morning that today’s exercise was a “waste” of his time. Elaborating further, Fernando said that today’s round of questioning was no different to that of what he has gone through previously. “I have given more than four statements on the same already, I have been questioned by the presidential commission as well. I have also been questioned in front of a five bench judge panel,” he told The Morning. Additionally, Fernando stated that if Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekara has an issue over the statements made by him, Fernando invites him for an open debate. “I call him for an open debate to discuss the facts I have disclosed in Parliament over the Easter Attacks, and for him to answer such questions in front of national media,” Fernando stated. He further alleged that the Easter Attacks was more than a terrorist attack, as he referred to it as a “clear murder of people”.  “This is why we are asking the government for answers which they have not given us yet,” he stated This comes after the CID had launched an investigation into the comments made by the SJB parliamentarian on the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings. Accordingly, the MP had been summoned today (July 28) to re-record a statement with regard to the issues with his comments. Fernando had arrived at the CID this morning accompanied by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, SJB general secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara and several other party members.
