Colombo Port City Economic Commission: Meeting this week to decide next step

By Yoshitha Perera The Colombo Port City Economic Commission will operate as a proper office and certain recruitments are to be made in the near future to continue its work, The Sunday Morning learnt. Speaking with The Sunday Morning, Secretary to the Treasury S.R. Attygalle, who is a member of the Commission, said the seven-member Port City Economic Commission will meet this week to decide on the next steps, which they would have to implement in relation to this financial hub. “It is a complete office that we have to run and primarily, we have to get investors for the financial hub. We have to recruit certain people to continue this work and we will decide on these steps after the meeting next week,” he said. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed a seven-member commission on 31 May after the recent Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill was passed in Parliament with a majority of votes. The seven-member commission is chaired by Gamini Marapana (PC) and includes Attygalle, Secretary to the Ministry of Water Supply Prof. Priyath Bandu Wickrama, former Board of Investment Chairman Saliya Wickramasuriya, Orel Corporation Managing Director (MD) Kushan Kodituwakku, Mercantile Investments MD (Executive) Gerard Ondaatje, and McLarens Group Chairman and MD Rohan De Silva.
