First phase of constructing 5,000 housing units for low income families commences

The first phase of the project to build 5,000 housing units for middle class low income families has commenced today under the patronage of State Minister Nalaka Godahewa. Under the 'Saubhagye Dakma' policy, these housing projects being constructed in Colombo, Kandy and other areas were inaugurated in Orugodawatta today. The Orugodawatta Housing Project consists of 432 housing units. In the first phase, 3,000 houses will be constructed and housing projects will be constructed in Orugodawatta, Bloumendel, Malabe, Makumbura and Boralesgamuwa areas in the Colombo District. The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing stated that housing projects are to be commenced in Peliyagoda as well as in the Getambe area in the Kandy District. The project is expected to cost 9 billion rupees, with affordable housing for the middle class.
