First time in SL: Hash oil kilo worth over Rs. 5 m nabbed

By Hemantha Liyanapathirana   A drug in the form of oil extracted from either cannabis or hashish, named “hash oil”, with a street value of over Rs. 5 million per kilogramme, has been discovered for the first time in Sri Lanka. The Police Organised Crime Prevention Division arrested a suspect with a kilogramme of the drug from Arawwala, Maharagama on the night of 27 January. Investigations have revealed that the suspect had smuggled in the drug from Dubai for distribution at star-class hotels and clubs. National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB) Assistant Director (Scientific Research) Pabasara Weerasinghe told The Morning that the drug contains tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and affects the central nervous system. She noted that the said drug is manufactured in Morocco and Afghanistan.
