Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa is not suitable to become a presidential candidate according to the practical National Guidelines for the selection of candidates compiled and approved by the religious leaders, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said today.
Addressing the media at the party head office in Pelawatte Battaramulla, JVP Propaganda Secretary and Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath said Rajapaksa was not suitable to become a presidential candidate as he had pending litigations against him in courts.
In the book named ‘Toward the dawn of a new political culture of integrity in Sri Lanka,’ the religious leaders have clearly mentioned that the parties should not nominate candidates who have pending litigations in courts, he added.
The guidelines have been discussed and unanimously agreed upon and approved by the Most Venerable Mahanayaka Theras of the three Chapters, His Eminence the Cardinal, Bishop of the Anglican Church and representatives of Hindu and Islam religions.
