24 Jun 2019

[foogallery id="36371"] Inspector General of Police (IGP) Puijth Jayasundara arrived at the Supreme Court this morning (24) for the Fundamental Rights Petition case filed by the IGP against being sent on compulsory leave. The IGP, who was handed the compulsory leave on April 29 following the Easter Sunday attacks, filed an FR petition against several Government officials including the Speaker of the Parliament, members of the Constitutional Council and the Attorney General. In the petition, the IGP stated that he was sent on compulsory leave as per the orders of the President. Accordingly, the IGP requested the Supreme Court to hear the petition and to deliver an interim order to void the decision to send him on compulsory leave until the hearing concludes. The Supreme Court today said it will decide on July 31 if the petition will be considered. Pictures by Saman Abeysiriwardena
