Is Prez intending to cause racial conflict with One Country One Law Task Force, asks AKD

10 Nov 2021

Questioning President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's decision to appoint Bodu Bala Sena Secretary General Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero to lead the One Country One Law Task Force, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka said that he suspects the President is attempting to split the country by causing racial differences and unrest. He made this statement while speaking in Parliament today (10). "Minister of Justice Ali Sabry has openly spoken out against the appointment of Gnanasara Thero, he has also given his resignation. What I want to know is, didn't the President consult Sabry or the Prime Minister when this decision was made? Even the PM found out just like I did, in the morning when we woke up and it was on the media. I have a feeling the President is trying to cause a racial conflict," said Dissanayaka. In response to Dissanayaka's question, Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekera stated that the President made such a decision by himself and had looked into all aspects before making such an appointment. "In the Yahapalanaya Government, you held several portfolios, no one questioned your appointments then and asked the President of that time why you were given such appointments, so I think you also should not question why President Rajapaksa made this appointment," replied Weerasekera. In conclusion, Dissanayake said the only reason as to why he wanted to ask the question was because he had no crime cases against him and had all rights to do so. "When the Minister of Public Security replies back with such madness, what can the people of the country think? I have the right to ask these questions, and if the President makes decisions to appoint a person who has allegations against him, then even the President is not aware of what he is doing," Dissanayaka said.
