A special police team has been deployed to probe the celebration of Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa Vitharana’s birthday within the Kurunegala Police Station premises on 30 May in violation of the quarantine regulations.
Police Media Spokesman Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Ajith Rohana said that the investigation would be carried out to identify those who participated in the celebration as well.
Meanwhile, an assistant superintendent of police (ASP) has been transferred for allowing the celebration of Vitharana’s birthday within the Kurunegala Police premises. The decision to transfer had been taken by the Police Headquarters.
Vitharana had also attended a pirith chanting ceremony on 30 May at the same premises.
Reportedly, Vitharana had also cut a birthday cake that had been prepared for the event by the Police.
