BY Pamodi WaravitaThe ward dedicated to Covid-19 patients at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children (LRH) in Colombo has reached its maximum capacity, LRH Director Dr. G. Wijesuriya told The Morning yesterday (26).“The capacity at the ward is for around 35 patients. Therefore, we are transferring the patients that we cannot accommodate to other hospitals. During the three waves of the pandemic, the LRH has treated about 500 patients in total for Covid-19,” said Dr. Wijesuriya.He further said that more than five children are admitted to the LRH on a daily basis now, although as of two weeks ago, only one child with Covid-19 was admitted per day.Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health informed yesterday that the highly transmissible B.1.617.2 Indian Delta variant of Covid-19 has now spread to all districts in the country. On 25 July, 1,666 new cases and 45 deaths were reported as a result of the virus.
