Malaysia to impose travel ban on SL citizens

06 May 2021

According to Malaysian Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Malaysia will soon impose a travel ban on citizens of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal. However, an exact date on when the ban will take effect was not mentioned. This move comes after a temporary ban on flights from and to India to prevent the new Covid-19 variant from entering Malaysia. Accordingly, travel restrictions imposed on citizens of these countries involve all categories holding long-term social visit passes, business travellers and social visitors. The Minister has stated that exemptions will be given to holders of diplomatic passports and officials as stated in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
