Namal’s apology

09 Oct 2022

The crisis faced by the farmers as well as the country’s low paddy output for three harvests have been attributed to the adverse impact of the organic fertiliser policy that was implemented by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa (GR)  It was this reason that compelled Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa, who is currently heading the party’s reforms process in the absence of Basil Rajapaksa, to make a public apology to farmers. Addressing a gathering in the Digamadulla area recently, Namal apologised for the strict organic fertiliser policy that was pushed by his uncle, former President GR, to the farming community who had attended the meeting. “I apologise on behalf of the party for the policy decision that was taken on organic fertiliser,” he said.
