NCC emerge champions as Mishara strikes another ton

Unbeaten Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC) emerged champion of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Major Clubs Limited-overs Tournament 2020/21 when they beat Ragama CC by 145 runs in the final played at SSC in Colombo yesterday (11).

NCC won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 286/7 in their 50 overs. Kamil Mishara made his third ton of the season. The left-handed top-order batsman made 113 off 132 deliveries with nine boundaries.

Kaveen Bandara (65) and Skipper Angelo Perera (61) made half centuries for NCC. Mishara and Bandara shared 137 runs for the third wicket. Then Mishara and Perera shared 98 for the fourth wicket. Right-arm medium fast bowler Ishan Jayaratne took three wickets for 52 runs while left-arm medium fast bowler Binura Fernando took three for 55.

Ragama CC were bowled out for 141 runs in 30.3 overs. Their top scorer was Janith Liyanage who scored 42 runs. Janaka Sampath (21), Nishan Madhushka (15), Saminda Fernando (14), Udara Jayasundara (13), and Ishan Jayarathne (13) all chipped in but in vain.

Right-arm medium fast bowler Chamika Karunaratne claimed four wickets for 37 runs for NCC. Right-arm fast Lahiru Kumara took three for 21.

Janith Liyanage (Ragama CC) became the leading run scorer of the tournament. He made 461 runs with a century and three half centuries. Kamil Mishara (NCC) made 431, inclusive of three centuries. Angelo Perera (also NCC) scored 394 runs with one century and two half tons.

Best bowlers of the tournament:

Binura Fernando of Ragama CC was the leading wicket taker of the tournament. He took 23 wickets for 254 runs. Alankara De Silva (Badureliya CC) and Ishan Jayarathne (Ragama CC) had both captured 18 wickets each by the end of the tournament this year.
