New buildings to be constructed in several hospitals including Kalubowila Hospital

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa instructed several government agencies under the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing to expedite the provision of infrastructure facilities including buildings required to increase the treatment capacity of patients. Under this directive, State Minister of Rural Housing and Construction and Building Material Promotion Indika Anuruddha supervised the inspection of the construction work of the 10 storey building complex to be constructed at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital (Kalubowila Hospital). He has also urged for the construction to be completed expeditiously. The Ministry of Health is constructing this 10 storey building at a cost of Rs. 743 million. The new building will have 07 operating theaters, 05 laboratories, 02 outpatient units and a residential hospital ward complex called 'Millennium'. Facilities are being set up at the hospital to treat a large number of patients. State Minister Indika Anuruddha who participated in the inspection tour stated that the sole objective of the President and the Prime Minister is to provide these facilities to the people as soon as possible. "Covid can be controlled by improving hospitals. It is a unique development. This is something the country needs at the moment,” he said. All these construction activities which will be vested in the public soon are being carried out by the State Engineering Corporation of Sri Lanka under the State Ministry of Rural Housing and Construction and Building Material Promotion.
