New visa regulations to help Korean investments in Sri Lanka

18 Aug 2022

Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Santhush Woonjin Jeong said the newly introduced relaxed visa regulations will help to attract more Korean investors to Sri Lanka. Pointing out that Korea was the top investor in Sri Lanka in the 1980s, the Ambassador said his country desires to regain that position by increasing investments. He stated this when he called on Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to felicitate him on his appointment as the Premier yesterday (17). The Prime Minister said Korea has the opportunities now to invest in new sectors such as the production of agricultural machinery, medicine and medical equipment, and the renewable energy and fisheries sectors. He also pointed out the potential for exports to the huge Indian market utilising the Indo-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement. Ambassador Jeong said several programmes, including a Korean film festival, will be held later this year to mark the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Secretary to the Prime Minister Anura Dissanayake was also present during the meeting.
