No one will invest in Sri Lanka due to the current economic crisis: UNP

02 Mar 2022

No one will invest in Sri Lanka as the trust has been lost within the international community with the mismanagement of the current economic crisis, says United National Party (UNP) Chairman Vajira Abeywardena. He made this statement while speaking to the media today (03). "Not a single investor globally will invest in Sri Lanka due to the current situation the country is in. This is because of the trust that has been lost with the mismanagement of funds within the country and the crisis. People are unable to find food for their 3 meals, people are unable to live a normal life anymore, parents are unable to send their children to school anymore, it is the government's duty to ensure that the livelihoods of people are not lost," said Abeywardena. He further added that the Government of Sri Lanka must, without delay, approach the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and acquire all the assistance possible. "The Government must approach the IMF immediately. There is a saying that when a person cannot dance they blame the floor saying it is not levelled. This is the type of Government that is currently governing the country and if they are unable to do their duties it is best that they step down and hand over to a party that can handle the situation," he concluded.
