Senior Advisor to the President Lalith Weeratunga today stated that reports of VIP vaccine centers operating in the island are false and the vaccination drive is done according to UN regulations. “There are no VIP vaccine centers. Senior citizens are prioritised for the COVAX vaccine as per UN regulations. For non senior citizens, the distribution of the vaccine is on first come, first serve basis and no partiality will be shown in its dispensation,” he stated. This was in response to reports circulating on partiality and political interference in the vaccination drive. The PHI Union on March 01 pointed out that incidents were reported from Colombo Municipality area with regard to politicians making undue influence on officials in the vaccination drive. Responding to these allegations, Minister of Mass Media Keheliya Rambukwella had stated that the relevant authorities can reveal the names of those who have allegedly sabotaged the vaccination drive with their influence.
