Obtaining driving licence | Blood test not a criterion

14 Sep 2020

  • Main criteria would be eye test
By Sarah Hannan The medical fitness certification to obtain a driving licence will be primarily based on an eye test, State Minister of Transport Services Management Dilum Amunugama informed. “Going forward, obtaining a blood test to determine one’s blood sugar level or one’s blood pressure level will not be a criterion to obtain a driving licence. Nevertheless, blood tests will be included only as a service,” State Minister Amunugama reiterated. The State Ministry is also discussing the possibility of looking into issuing two types of driving licences; one for commercial purposes and the other for personal use. Anyone with a sound health check who qualifies the medical fitness certification will be able to obtain the commercial driving licence, whereas the licence issued for personal use can be obtained by persons who will only be driving their own vehicle.
