Gamage during a recent District Infrastructure Development Committee meeting held in Matale as part of the National Programme to Uplift the National Rural Economy. “We have been informed that the priceless ola-leaf manuscripts which include the ancient Ayurveda practices of Sri Lanka are held at several museums in the UK. These ola-leaf manuscripts had been taken away from Sri Lanka during the British invasion. The manuscripts are said to have recorded the indigenous knowledge of the ancestors of our country, including Hela Ayurveda practices, which is of great value and importance, that should be preserved for future generations,” Gamage noted. State Minister of Promotion of Indigenous Medicine, Development of Rural and Ayurvedic Hospitals, and Community Health Sisira Jayakody, who participated in the Matale meeting, stated that the relevant arrangements were being discussed to bring transcripts of the ola-leaf manuscripts. He added that a cost of £ 25 will be charged to copy one page of the manuscript,  and the necessary provisions will be made to bring that knowledge back to Sri Lanka.
