Only 147 condominium units to be sold at Altair

18 Apr 2021

By The Sunday Morning News Desk    Altair, the luxury commercial development in Colombo has only about 147 condominium units remaining to be sold to the public, The Sunday Morning Business learnt.  Speaking to The Sunday Morning Business, Special Authorised Officer for the completion of the Altair and former Urban Development Authority (UDA) Chairman and current Urban Development and Housing Ministry Secretary Nimal Perera stated that all the other units are sold.  “There are only 147 condominium units to be sold,” Perera added.  The soft opening of the common areas of Altair was held in March 2021 under the auspices of State Minister of Urban Development, Coast Conservation, Waste Disposal, and Community Cleanliness Dr. Nalaka Godahewa, Colombo Mayor Rosy Senanayake, and Indian High Commission Head of Economic and Commercial Affairs Dr. Rakesh Panday.  Recently, issuing a statement in March, Altair stated that 70% of condominium units have been pre-sold. Accordingly, there was also a symbolic handover of five apartments to owners selected from those who had completed their full payments at the earliest date, and also to two owners who had been first to book the property. The final completion of Altair, albeit delayed, is eagerly anticipated, and the handover of apartments would commence in the next few months.  The Altair, designed by award-winning, world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie stands unique in the Colombo skyline since its structure consists of a straight 68-story vertical tower and a 63-story sloping tower, with 400 apartments and 45% of the total space allocated for public areas which was the first project approved by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa during his tenure as the Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development under the Special Development Projects Act.  Altair’s construction, which was due to be completed in 2017, was delayed due to complications that arose between shareholders, before the President’s intervention.
